A British taxi driver was stunned after a customer left £9,000 in the back of his cab.

Trevor Hamilton was cleaning out his car and found the cash on the back seat in a plastic bag.

The Dorset, South East England, based driver recalled: "I was just about to throw it away. I've had a lot of things left in my taxi but this tops it."

An earlier passenger had even alerted his attention to the bag "They were going to throw it out because they thought it was meat or veg in there," said a spokesperson for Hamilton's taxi firm.

He tracked down and returned the loot to the grateful customer, an elderly male, who thought his money was lost forever - Hamilton was tipped £200 for his honesty.
