An Australian man has been told his marriage was invalid, because he had married someone else during a drunken night out 30 years before.
The 67-year-old man, who cannot be named, found out about the legal union when he and his Hawaiian girlfriend applied to live in Hawaii, and were told by US immigration authorities their 'marriage' wasn't recognised.
The man said his "sky fell in" when he was shown the marriage licence, and only vaguely remembered the "nice" blonde woman he had met in Arizona during shore leave from his job at an oil rig.
Justice Sally Brown, who annulled the marriage, said: "He has no recollection of going through any form of ceremony of marriage with her."
