Letter fear

2 months ago 21st Jun 13:15

A German court has dismissed claims from a woman that she has a phobia of official letters.

The woman appealed for child support benefits to be restored citing her phobia as reason for missing deadlines for filling in official forms. The woman was asked to provide the information in May 2007 and again in July, giving her a month to appeal.

She only responded in September, and included a note describing her phobia. In court the woman repeated she was and still is petrified by the contents of official letters, but had been too ashamed to seek psychological treatment. The court rejected her argument, saying it was a long-term problem and that she had had plenty of time to seek help.
