Gash DJs fast became a talking point at last summers Ibiza Rocks. Their mixed up sets and twisted sounds were recognised instantly in the white isle and attracted a huge following.
One year on, they launch Gash Digital, their download-only record label. Melanie Hughes caught up with one half of the duo Pete Carvell.
'You don't need a decent, local record shop or a great deal of money to purchase good music any longer,' says Pete Carvell, who is originally from Preston. 'The digital market is by far the most accessible and successful format. Releasing music this way helps support up and coming artists by showcasing their material to an unlimited, international audience.
'This, coupled with my desire to share and showcase some of the music and producers that Ive become a fan of during the past few years, is how Gash Digital came about.'
Pete and his counterpart Jim Da Mentalist Lloyd caught the attention of the Ibiza Rocks team last summer and became resident DJs, hosting after-show parties for the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Kaiser Chiefs. 'From the moment we flew out, right up until the last party of the season, I had a massive smile on my face,' says Pete.
'There is a great team of people involved in the shows and, it is, of course, a dream residency. Coupled with the Ibiza sunshine and lifestyle it was an amazing summer.'
Gash DJs stand out because they cross genre boundaries, mixing filthy electro with guitar-fuelled beats. Their motto 'Love Music, Fuck Genres,' has left critics struggling to pigeonhole them.
Pete says: 'Our sets encompass everything from pure indie through to techno and tech house, depending on the time and mood.
