The Dark Knight rules overseas

3 months ago 29th Jul 09:35

New Batman movie The Dark Knight is standing tall at the global box office for a second consecutive week, taking $65.6 million over the weekend.

The Batman Begins sequel, starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, now has an international haul of $166 million - but it's still only a fraction of its record-breaking box office earnings of $300 million in just 10 days.

Will Smith's action movie Hancock, about a dysfunctional superhero, is a distant second with $19.2 million, while animated family film Kung Fu Panda is in third place with $17.8 million.

Movie musical Mamma Mia! takes fourth place with $17.5 million, and The X-Files: I Want to Believe debuts at five with $9.3 million.
