The British Fashion Council are still refusing to budge on the debate about size zero models.
The BFC are expected to announce today that plans to ban "size zero" models from the London Fashion Week catwalk won't work, due to a lack of support from the international fashion industry, reports vogue.
That means that London joins Paris, Milan and New York in declaring that the plans to introduce health certificates for all models is 'unworkable'.
The health certificates were one of the suggestions which were made by the Model Health Inquiry- set up last year to look seriously at the working conditions of fashion models.
"This will only work if it's an international solution," Hilary Riva, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, tells the Times today.
"I would love for there to be a simpler solution. If we could just tick a box and move on it would make everyone's life easier but now this really is along-term educational and behavioural campaign."
"We looked at things like doctor's certification and body mass index and decided that, for us, it wasn't an appropriate recommendation," explains Steven Kolb, executive director of the New York council. "We felt it was wrong to force a girl to have a physical examination, especially because the signs of a problem aren't always obvious."
Last year Ken Livingston threatened to pull vital funding from the BFC if changes were not made- however he then later backed down after a promise of a few token alterations from the council.
The BFC fear that models will boycott London Fashion Week if they are forced to live up to the health requirements- well perhaps we should all boycott British fashion if they don't get the balls to face up to reality and use healthy models!
