5 out of 5 stars Excellent value of twin dvds   July 14, 2010

Two excellent British films, virtually classics at a give-away price from Amazon. Both are belly-aching comedies of the everything goes wrong variety.
"Snatch" stars Brad Pitt giving a superb performance as a tough bare-knuckle Irish "pikey" or Gypsy.
"Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" is a confused but delightful black comedy of rival gangs in London.

5 out of 5 stars The films that gave birth to a new genre!   April 9, 2010

Guy Ritchie should be given lots of kudos for making these two hugely successful films. They are not a part of the 'Long Good Friday' or 'Get Carter' British crime genre. 'LSATSB' and 'Snatch' are the founding fathers of the Mockney Gangster genre and I by this I mean to disrespect! Both films have great characters and comedy turns as well as violence by the bucketload! For people that have not seen these films, please watch with some beers and mates. They are great. The fast cutting between scenes makes for pacing at heart attack speeds at times but this shows Ritchie to be a master of his art. The gangsters might be a bit cliched but these films launched the careers of Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham so they must have done serious business at the box office. Brad Pitts portrayal of 'One Punch Mickey' in Snatch is particularly amusing- "iwannabuymemahacaravaan!" - I want to buy my mother a caravan!

For this price, these two films are "A deal, they're a steal. They're the sale of the century"!

Really a great set of twin gangster movies!! Unlike American shoot'em ups, these two have more gangster attitudes and darkness to them than blood and gore! By watching both movies it is obvious that they were directed by the same Guy Ritchie which uses a similar style for both movies but with their own uniqueness.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels: More of a gangster movie than Snatch and there were more spectacular camera shots that caught my eye, such as the extreme close ups on the pupils of the eye and their contraction as a way of emphasizing the responses and thoughts of the characters. The plot tends to get more and more complicated as the movie progresses and then an unexpected ending that ends the whole movie and sort of leaves the viewer in a clif hanger ending. This movie has more of a comedic sense than Snatch, but that doesn't really affect it's overall seriousness in being a gangster moive.

Snatch: Again similar to Lock, Stock but with bigger actors and the same core principle that one item gets several individuals that would never meet under normal circumstances together and matters really get complicated. There are fewer comedic scenes and also has great narration during the moive. There is more depth to the characters in this movie and you feel more familiar to them than in Lock, Stock. This also gets you more on the edge of your seat till the end of the movie.. The character 'Brick Top' is quite unique... This movie also ends with an uncertain ending as a solution to the plot that continually thickens during the whole movie!

Overall, if you're tired of the regular American bang bang they're dead movies.. these two movies are for you! Get these movies and you won't regret it!

Some of the dialogue not as catchy as the later Snatch but well worth watching - at least twice to fully appreciate it. Can now be bought for peanuts so should be in everyones DVD collection.
