Product Description
The Pineapple Express, directed by David Gordon Green, stars Seth Rogan, James Franco and Danny R. McBride. Lazy stoner Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver (James Franco): to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop (Rosie Perez) and the city's most dangerous drug lord (Gary Cole), he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. But the weed is so rare that it can be traced back Saul. Dale and Saul have to run for their lives as the bad guys are hot on their trail! All aboard the Pineapple Express.
Amazon.co.uk Review The latest 'bro-mance' from Judd Apatow (creator of Superbad, Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin), Pineapple Express is the story of Dale Denton (Seth Rogan) and Saul Silver (James Franco), a pothead and his dealer who accidentally get caught up in a drug war between two gangs with some corrupt cops, high school girls and smalltime henchmen thrown in for good measure. At its core, Pineapple Express is a stoner comedy--a tale of two sluggish, giggling, loveable idiots in way over their heads. This formula has made for some entertaining comedy over the years, Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke and Dave Chappell's Half Baked being two of the best examples. What sets Pineapple Express apart from these silly classics however, is the consistency of the humour, the perfect chemistry between Rogan and Franco and the giddily ridiculous action sequences. The movie retains the sweetness that is present in most of Apatow's films, making the characters’ poor choices and ultra-violent actions somehow justifiable (or at least relatable). The site gags, pop culture references and perfectly timed non-sequiturs only enhance the hilarity. Director David Gordon Green, known mostly for the understated and reflective films George Washington and All the Real Girls, seemed like an odd choice for such a raucous and over-the-top comedy, but it turns out Green's stamp is all over this film (as is his long-time cinematographer, Tim Orr) who together manage to turn Pineapple Express into much more than the sum of its parts. --Kira Canny

Best stoner comedy around July 21, 2009 Jake Francis (Wales) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I loved this film from beggining to end it is by far better than other 'stoner' comedies such as harold and kumar. The best parts of the film for me are definately the totally over the top action scenes. The two main characters are just two everyday guys that get caught up in something totally over their heads and the result is pure laughs.

Pineapple express is one of those rare gems that can be watched over and over again.
The laughs are relentless and it triumphs where other drug related comedy films fail; it doesn't obsess over the topic of drugs and instead focuses on a high standard of storytelling.
I dont think you need to have ever smoked weed to enjoy the hilarious acting and classic slapstick moments.
Seth Rogen and James Franco put on a side-splitting performance, and the latter seems to have found his true calling in comedy after his part in the Spiderman films.
I strongly recommend this film to anyone who can appreciate a comedy that keeps them smiling/laughing right the way through to the end credits.
Do not listen to the nay-sayers! September 18, 2009 L. F. Darley 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This film is one of the funniest I've seen in a long time. If you've ever smoked weed and enjoyed it, you'll love this film, if you like slapstick you'll love this film, if you like inane comedy you'll love this film!
If you like none of these then don't watch it simple as.
Want to watch a funny laid back comedy about weed, Watch It!
If not go search the usual drab you like!
One of the best films of 2008 May 17, 2009 Dezza (Bernera, Isle of Lewis) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was easily one of the best films of 2008, for two reasons. 1 - it's funny as hell. 2 - it's action is great. Comedy and action are two of my favourite genre's of film, and this combines the to wonderfully. Seth Rogen is outstanding in his comfort zone of being a pot-head, but this time instead of knocking some bird up, he shoots bad guys, awesome. The jokes are always presant and funny, the action dosn't begin until about 45 minutes in, and it's all out action. With massive over the top gun fights and one of the most realistic fights of all time the last 45 minutes is just as good as the first but for diffrent reasons. Overall this film is one of a kind and one of the best films of 2008. It is Awesome.
Buy if you like - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang or Super Troopers
The reason I recommend you to see Pineapple Express if you have seen these two films is because Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is an action film with plenty of comedy, and Super Troopers is a comedy with action (sort of). Infact i recommend you to see all three.
Genuinely Funny... February 23, 2009 NutShell (Hong Kong) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Unlike one of the Apatow's overly hyped previous outings, Superbad, this movie had me laughing all the way through. It was quite refreshing to see James Franco in something other than the brooding son of the Green Goblin in Spiderman. In fact, I didn't recognise him at first. The story, is fairly simple and in certain cases, a tad over the top, but is played by the actors with some real zeal and who may have actually been on the drugs that they were portraying...
I enjoyed the movie from start to finish and the finale was pure genius...and as mentioned the transfer to Blue-ray is first class. Well worth adding to your collection and putting it on when you've had a couple of beers...
