Granted, it isn't the funniest film ever produced, nor the cleverest; but what do we ask of the average comedy movie? Simply that it makes us laugh, and this film does make you laugh. The plot is straight-forward: a shopping centre security guard who wants to be a cop and have all of the authority that comes with it. Trying to seduce the dumb but hot cosmetics girl, tasering people who don't need to be tasered, kicking the hell out of nuisance skateboarders in the car park, blaming foreign workers for all of the thefts, and obsessively pursuing a pervert harrassing customers; how can you go wrong with that little cocktail? 10/10 for me! It's a mainstream movie, but with the kind of jokes you'd expect to see a cult independent black-comedy. Performances are very good. Seth Rogan is always reliable, but the one we have to praise here is the amazing Anna Farris with her truly unique and brilliant style of awkward humour. The film is also immaculately shot. Several sequences even verge into beautiful music-video territory. In summary, Observe and Report is easily one of the best comedies so far this year, however as stated, you have to understand the humour. Watch out, The Hangover: There's a new comedy in town. I really enjoyed this film, it is a bit sparse on the laugh out loud moment, but I don't think it is meant to be an all out comedy. The film has a dark undertone to it, and is a bit different from Rogens previous films. Watch with an open mind and you will be rewarded.
