James Arthur has been crowned the winner of 'The X Factor' 2012.
The Middleborough native - who was a firm favourite from the beginning of the series - was completely over-whelmed by his victory tonight (09.12.12) and struggled to speak when told the news by presenter Dermot O'Leary.
Asked how it felt to win the series, he simply said: "Thank you so much. Have I really. I don't know what to say."
Runner-up Jahmene Douglas graciously accepted his defeat and congratulated his rival, saying it was a "blessing to share the stage with such a talent."
The talented 24-year-old singer - who received the highest number of public votes - performed his debut single 'Impossible' for the second time, which was originally released by R&B singer Shontelle, immediately after winning and was joined on stage by One Direction, who helped him celebrate his achievement.
Earlier on tonight's finale, his proud mentor Nicole Scherzinger, who also mentored Jahmene, praised James and predicted he will have a hugely successful career.
She said: "James, you proved tonight anything is possible. James, you are never going back to that bedsit. James, your life is never going to be the same after this."
James fought back tears upon being cheered by the 10,000 strong live audience at the finale in Manchester.
Before taking to the stage, he said: "I would sum up this whole experience as being the best time of my life... Winning the 'X Factor' would be the ultimate achievement, making my family proud. It feels like I could wake up any moment and it would be a dream."
